AO Piscium = H2252-035

A finding chart for AO Psc

SkyView image of AO Psc (see important notes).

Position
  • Equatorial: 22h55m17.99s, -03d10m40.0s (J2000)
  • Galactic: l=68.67, b=-53.34
Finding Chart:
Griffiths et al (1980)
Brigntness:
Optical ; fx (2-10 keV)~4.1x10^(-11) ergs/cm/cm/s (ASCA)
Periods:
  • Orbital: 0.1496252 d = 3.591 hr = 12927.6 s, seen in optical and X-rays.
    HJD (max) = 2444864.1428 (28) + 0.1496252 (5) E
    (Kaluzny & Semeniuk 1988)
    See the X-ray orbital modulations seen with ASCA.
  • Spin: 0.00932 d = 13.42 min = 805.2s, seen in X-ray and optical photometry.
    HJD = 2444883.92074 (37) + 0.009319484 (4) E -2.87 (30) x 10-13 E2
    (Kaluzny & Semeniuk 1988) has now accumulated too much uncertainties to be useable.
    See the X-ray spin profiles seen with ASCA.
  • Others: The 858.69 s sideband is more prominent than the spin period in the optical.
    HJD = 2445174.18142 (16) + 0.009938493 (2) (4) E -3.87 (25) x 10-13 E2
    (Kaluzny & Semeniuk 1988)
    See the X-ray beat pulses seen with ASCA.
Inclination:
~60 deg? (X-ray orbital dip, no eclipse).
Distance:
~400 pc?

In many ways, the architype of IPs: sinusoidal X-ray spin modulation, sideband is stronger in the optical than the spin, steady spin-up (although how closely has it been monitored of late?). Orbital modulation is modest in X-rays, but definitely due to absorption event; sinusoidal and prominent in the optical.
