X-ray Beat Pulses of AO Psc

AO Psc Beat Profile Plot

The energy-resolved X-ray beat pulses of AO Psc. Data are from the 1994 June ASCA observation folded on the ephemeris of Kaluzny & Semenuk 1988. The energy dependence suggests that the X-ray beat pulses are not due to stream overflow accretion. It may be obscuration modulated on the beat period, or possibly soft X-rays emitted from photoionized plasma fixed in the orbital frame (e.g., the hot spot). Since the observation covers 245 spin cycles and 16 orbital cycles pretty uniformly, these beat pulses are probably not due to sampling effects.
