Warning Target lists are produced by
prototype software under test. You are strongly advised to double
check results before using to make observations.
The targets listed here are all derived from a copy of the
Hipparcos catalog downloaded from the
ADC
.
Observing times are derived assuming that a transmitter in the vicinity of
a star promptly sends a signal after a gamma-ray burst (GRB) is detected by the
transmitter. Only gamma-ray bursts that have very accurate
positions (e.g. have optical counterparts) are used.
Caution The accuracy of the predicted times is hard to test. If you
wish to use these times for an observing program you would probably be wise
to perform your own independent calculations!
Targets are selected based on the uncertainties in the
predicted signal arrival times and offset angles being less than certain values.
No restriction is made on other parameters such as
spectral type, age, single vs. binary etc.

Date, Time: Time when target should be observed in
calendar date and hours and minutes in
UT
(Universal Time - i.e. essentially
Greenwich Mean Time).
+/-: The standard error on the predicted arrival time
in hours. i.e. observations would ideally be made at least starting
this long before the arrival time and continue until at least this long
after. The error is derived from the uncertainty in the distance to the
source which comes from the error on the parallax. The typically
small error due to the error on the proper motion is also included.
D: Distance in parsecs to the target.
Lag: The time delay in days between the occurrence
of the astrophysical event and when a signal from the target would
be detected. This is what was used to calculate "MJD", and "Date" and
"Time".
Angle: The angular separation in degrees between the
event and the target.
ID: The Hipparcos ID number of the target.
V: Optical magnitude in the Johnson V band.
Spec. type: The spectral type of the target star(s).
Event: The name of the astrophysical event which was
used to derive the proposed target and the observation time.
