A Very Brief History of HTML
- October-December 1990
- First Web browser written in NeXTStep
(Tim Berners-Lee)
- 1993
- Mosaic written (Marc Andreesen)
- September, 1995
- HTML 2.0 (first official spec) released. This combined a number of informal
documents into one official recommendation.
- January 1997
- HTML 3.2 released.
This was an attempt to formalize some of the crud that Netscape had added
to HTML.
- December 1997
- HTML 4.0 released. This
newest version, if implemented properly, will get back to the ideal of
separating content from presentation.
