A finding chart for FO Aqr

SkyView image of FO Aqr (see important notes).

Position
  • Equatorial: 22h17m55.38s, -08d21m03.7s (Gaia)
  • Galactic: l=53.00, b=-49.16
Finding Chart:
Patterson & Steiner (1983)
Brigntness:
Optical G=13.9 (Gaia); X-rays: 5.3x10-11 ergs cm-2s-1 (BAT 157m; 14-195 keV), 2.9x10-11 ergs cm-2s-1 (4XMM-DR11)
IP Credential:
***** (Ironclad) Multiple X-ray and optical observations firmly establish the orbital and spin periods of this IP.
Periods:
  • Orbital: 0.2020596 d = 4.849430 hr = 17457.95 s, see in optical and X-rays.
    HJD = 2444782.869(2) + 0.2020596(1)E
    (Patterson et al 1998) for the orbital dip.
  • Spin: 0.014519035 d = 20.907410 min = 1254.4446 s, seen in optical photometry, optical spectroscopy and X-rays.
    HJD = 2444782.9168 + 0.014519035E + 7.002x10^(-13)E^2 - 1.556x10^(-18)E^3
    (Erratum to Patterson et al 1998) works for 1981-1987. However, given the erratic history of this system, a continuing monitoring would be prudent.
  • Others: spin-orbit and 2spin-orbit seen in X-rays; spin-orbit and possibly spin+orbit seen in optical photometry.
Inclination:
~65 deg? (has grazing eclipse).
Distance:
531.5 (522.9-538.3) pc (Gaia EDR3; parallax: 1.842+/-0.028 mas)
