BG Canis Minoris = 3A0729+103

  • Position
    • Equatorial: 07h31m29.04s, +09d56m21.8s (J2000)
    • Galactic: l=208.48, b=+13.36
    Finding Chart:

    Brigntness:
    Optical ; fx (2-10 keV)~2.3x10^(-11) ergs/cm/cm/s (ASCA)
    Periods:
    • Orbital: 0.1347486 d = 3.234864 hr = 11645.51 s, see in optical and X-rays
      HJD(Eclipse) = 2445020.396(2)=0.13474854(10)E
      (Hellier 1997a; see, however, Kim et al. 2005)
    • Spin (?): 0.010573 d = 15.225 min = 913.5 s, seen in optical photometry, optical spectroscopy and X-rays.
      HJD(max) = 2445020.27999(33)+0.010572993(4)E-3.86(9)x10^(-13)E^2
      (Hellier 1997a; see, however Kim et al. 2005)
    • Others: positive sideband in X-rays; 1083s in optical.
    Inclination:
    ~65 deg? (has grazing eclipse)
    Distance:
    ?

BG CMi has a very strong orbital X-ray modulation, and probably has a grazing eclipse in the optical. Perhaps one of its most important feature is that optical and IR polarization have been detected in this system; inferred magnetic field is ? Also, there has been some controversy over whether the 913.5s period really is the white dwarf spin period or not.
