SkyView image of AE Aqr (see important notes).

Position:
  • Equatorial: 20h40m09.07s, -00d52m16.3s (J2000)
  • Galactic: l=45.28, b=-24.42
Finding Chart:

Distance:
102 pc (79-144; Friedjung 1997)

AE Aqr is a long orbital period, short spin period propeller system. K3-K7 secondary is clearly visible in the optical spectrum. The optical pulsation is weak, much stronger in UV, which is probably from the white dwarf photosphere. Strong flaring activities have been noted. AE Aqr has been detected in radio and in TeV gamma-rays (probably). The proppeller model is currently favored for this system.
