First Web browser written in NeXTStep (Tim Berners-Lee)
1993
Mosaic written (Marc Andreesen)
September, 1995
HTML 2.0 (first official spec) released. This combined a number of informal documents into one official recommendation.
January 1997
HTML 3.2 released. This was an attempt to formalize some of the crud that Netscape had added to HTML.
December 1997
HTML 4.0 released. This newest version, if implemented properly, will get back to the ideal of separating content from presentation.
